More than a travel guide, it spends more time on background and the meaning of sites in the Philippines. Many beautiful photos. Good book to learn about Philippines without going. My American friends that have read this book say it was BiG help to them in understanding not just travel only.

This is one of the books you should get when you're going to the Philippines. It is a very long book filled with good detailed facts. The photographers who took the pictures got very good shots of the Philippines. Another good thing about this book is that is has very good information when your touring the Philippines in the back of the book. It tells you information about the weather, lodging, holidays and festivals, what should be worn, and even how to speak basic Tagalog (the official language of the Philippines). There's a lot of things I haven't mentioned. If you want a good quality guidebook on the Philippines, then you should try this book!

I considered sending the authors a check, since this book has already been worth a half-dozen therapy sessions, and I'm not even finished. It's written clearly & intelligently. If everybody read this book with the loving care with which it's written, I think the world would be a saner place.

This is one of the best books I have ever read on what is really happening within a relationship between two people. This book gets to the point on how individual's think and how that thinking causes confusion and relationship problems. Many books like this are nice to read and then you close the book and that's it. This one is different. I would recommend this to those who have a pattern of relationship problems or those who know there is a problem in your current relationship, but just can't figure out what the problem is! My fiance is reading this and we're learning a lot about each other! This one is so interesting and easy to read, I couldn't put it down until I was finished. A keeper!

The Bulwer-Lytton fiction contest is an annual contest run by Scott Rice of San Jose State University. in which he challenges entrants to compose the opening sentence to the worst of all possible novels; the inspiration for the contest (and the title of it) is Edward George Bulwer-Lytton, who wrote the much-spoofed "Paul Clifford" in 1830, the novel that begins with the phrase, "It was a dark and stormy night...". This book is the fourth of, so far as I know, five collections of the best (most stunningly bad?) entries to that contest.

As Mark Twain first proved with his reprinting of an abysmally inept Portuguese guidebook to the English language, bad writing can be funny. Read about the Bulwer-Lytton contest and see how intentionally bad writing can tickle your funny-bone, and be instructive to boot.

F. Scott Fitzgerald may be remembered most often as the author of "The Great Gatsby", but during his lifetime, he earned most of his income by writing short stories for magazines. This compilation includes many of his earlier classics, all dealing with the same wealthy class of people that appear in his novels. "Bernice Bobs Her Hair" is a delightful tale about the lengths (literally) that girls will go to in order to fit in socially. "The Offshore Pirate" is a compelling and romantic story with an exciting and climactic ending. In addition, "The Diamond as Big as the Ritz", a longer and quite famous story has a brilliant plot; a boy visits his wealthy friend's home, and while he enjoys himself immensely and even falls in love, he finds out that the visit may come at a hefty price. "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" is a hilarious story about a man born looking like he is 70 years old, and looking progressively younger as he "ages", so that he eventually seems younger than his grandson. All in all, you cannot miss with any of his stories, and they make great evening reads - one a day will surely keep the doctor away!

Nostalgia has an inevitable foreshortening effect upon reputation. For most of us, Fitzgerald is the perenially young, perenially arch chronicler of the 1920s Jazz Age -- of bathtub gin, flappers, rumrunners and boats born ceaselessly back.

This collection of short stories does much to restore an unappreciated side of Fitzgerald the writer, most notably his willingness to experiment with technique, his almost existential grasp of human absurdity and his articulation of unease and pessimism about the possibilities of the American Dream.

The stories range widely in quality from precious parodies from his Princeton years ("Jemina") to profoundly moving glimpses of the human condition ("The Lees of Happiness"). Even the most insubstantial of the stories printed here are worth the read for, if nothing else, they show that even at his youngest and roughest, Fitzgerald had a keen grasp of voice and description and how to use it to breath life into wispy plot lines.

I take issue with some of the critical recommendations contained in Patrick O'Donnell's fine introduction to the collection. I did not, for instance, find "The Diamond as Big as the Ritz" particularly impressive. I think the best stories are those that hew to a psychological theme prevalent in Fitzgerald's fiction and his adult life -- the dread of what comes after youth and a nostalgic fixation on youth as the best time in a person's life. The stories I liked most -- "The Lees of Happiness," "The Ice Palace," "The Cut Glass Bowl," "Benediction," "The Four Fists," "'O Russet Witch!'" -- all tackle this theme.

Many of the stories in this volume aren't profound, but are just a delightful read. I defy you, for instance, to read "The Camel's Back" without bursting out loud in laughter over its protagonist's gyrations and setbacks in quest of his true love.

There is a wistfulness at the center of Fitzgerald's prose and his life story that seems to have faded from our collective remembrance of him as a Great American Author. This volume does much to remind us of that winsome note and to remind us that Fitzgerald paid dearly for it in his personal life as it lit up his writing at the same time.

This is an easily understood yet intriguing book that will please many different age groups. It makes the story of a great and powerful God seem both believable and compelling. The illustrations will haunt your thoughts long after you put the book down and draw you to the very feet of God.

Top quality reading material for the family! This book truly captures the story of Easter. The illustrations are beautiful, making it a great book for story telling to young children or terrific reading for older children. This was a great addition to our church's Sunday School library!

I was first introduced to Mr. Greenberg's books by my son who actively participates in student government at his high school. Frankly I take issue with Mr. Greenberg's limitation as to whom this book will benefit, i.e. "students". Certainly both these books should be required study for every EVERY student because of the incredibly positive impact the information will have on them, both professionally and personally for the rest of their lives. But in addition I must add, as a business owner with over 3,000 employees and a management team of 50, I have found the principles espoused in Mr. Greenberg's books to be the most effective management training tools we have ever employed in our company. Not only has the skills of our management team significantly improved, but also we have seen an enormous positive impact on all of our employees at all job levels. We now require every new hire in every position within our company to read, outline in their own words and then discuss with their respective department head, the principles taught in these books. We then have them apply the goal-setting strategy to their own hopes and dreams, both business and personal and then meet with them monthly to discuss their progress. The entire culture of our company has changed with the result of a significant heightening of employee morale, a much happier working environment, upbeat positive attitudes, increased production and significantly less turn over. The final result? Increased sales, 98% customer satisfaction and a definite increase in bottom line profit. Thank you Scott Greenberg. I only wish that I had the benefit of your books 30 years ago when I first started building my business.

Wow, what an inspiring book! I have been involved in student government and leadership training since junior high school. This book taught me more than I ever thought I could learn, about getting orginized, setting goals, overcoming obsticles, and acheiving goals now and in the future. The book starts right off by having you list your goals, then shows you simple but powerful ways to acheiving goals you could once only dream of. Being a high school junior, I have an unreal busy schedule, and could never seem to get all of my stuff done in and out of school. The author gave me the tools to overcome my biggest fear: Lack of time and being orginized! The things I learned in this book will make my life way easier, all the way through college. What a confidence builder! I have Mr. Greenberg's second book on order now ("Jump Start Volume 2"). I can't wait to read it!

This book is well written. It is perfect for someone thinking about joining the Martial Arts. I feel this book is written for children, but would be good for everyone to read. You are taken through a brief history of karate, what you can expect from a Dojo and teacher. And some prelimanty basics you can practice at home. All in all a very positive book.

Being a self-admitted tightwad, I hesitated when first buying this book. Even though Amazon.com had the best price I found, I was still wondering if I needed to spend this much money on a book I thought I would probably never use. Upon receiving the book, many of my initial reactions were proved unjustified, for a number of reasons.

This is at first glance an impressive book, measuring almost two inches thick. Upon delving into the myriad of information in the many chapters, the true worth of this publication was quickly revealed. This is 603 pages of highly detailed and instructive material. There are literally hundreds of photographs and detail drawings, giving even a first time mechanic a chance to see exactly how each part of the machine works, is disasembled, repaired and then reassembled. Step-by-step instructions are clearly listed, in a easy to read and interesting fashion. Numerous hints and how to tips make most of the jobs easier and further enhance the value of this publication.

Another nice feature are the areas that warn the reader about possibly dangerous repair procedures and how to avoid potential injury to mechanic or motorcycle. The book also lists any problems previous models have had and what the owner can do about them. For instance, upon first reading the book there was a warning in a side bar in the chapter on valves and valve adjustments. It informed the reader that certain ZX-900 Ninja owners could have bikes that had a factory recall. Specifically, certain bikes had valve spring retainers that could fail at high engine speeds, causing what the book termed 'catastrophic engine failure.' The book listed the serial numbers on the motor of the bikes that were affected. Unfortunately, mine was included and I'll have to pay for new retainers when the valves are adjusted. But, it's a small price to pay for something I had not known about that could of caused a loss of my life or someone elses. It was another perfect example of just how valuable this book is to those that buy, read and use it.

Overall, I don't see much that can be improved upon in this book. The text is easy to read, the pictures and diagrams are perfectly executed and the tips, how-to hints and reader warnings offer a wealth of assistance. There is a complex index and even a section in the back of the book with blank pages headed 'notes' at the top of each page. For those owners that want to perform their own service, repair and maintenance on their older Ninjas, this book is as important as any other accessory you could buy and was worth every penny. It earns five stars from me.

It's quite useful manual , especailly lots of "Cautions" tell good tips. If you buy this manual, no need to get service manual.

People who love to read should read all of Moesha's books, and people who are in relationships could take hold of this book as well. It gives you tips on what to do and not to do in a relationship. Ex. Writing a nasty letter to your boyfriend, and sending it E-mail. That could cost you your man and friend at the same time. Don't do it unless you want your heart broken into lots of pieces all over again. I really enjoyed reading this book over and over again. Please send me some more of the Moesha books to read and enjoy. I love to read and could read the whole day away. Stefaine, keep on writing books. It is something that you will sore in as the years go by.

I loved it! I see that this is a very realistic series. I enjoyed this book big time! How Moesha starts believing the rumors about her Q, but really he's secretly writing her a song called "Shorty". It is so cute!!!!!! Read it, enjoy it! I did!
